Once you start gathering information about flooring you quickly realize the options are endless and – like all things fashion related – ever changing. Different materials are in style at different times and there are any number of factors to consider before making your decision.

Do you choose floors that are made using environmentally friendly materials? What about longevity? Colour, shape and style? How much do engineered hardwood floors cost? Will my choices today add to my property value if I sell in the next few years? Is the investment worth it?

Thankfully there are tried and true options that are environmentally friendly, stylish and truly stand the test of time. At Forestry Timber, our specialty, of course, is engineered hardwood flooring. Engineered hardwood differs from traditional hardwood flooring in that it is constructed using three layers of wood: a foundation layer, a core layer using Hevea Brasiliensis for greater stability and a top layer of your chosen hardwood.
We offer hundreds of colour and style options, as well as various types of hardwood including American Pecan, Ash, Australian Blackbutt and – our most popular – Western European Oak. The wood we use for our floors is legally and responsibly harvested and certified worldwide.

In addition to the myriad options available for standard floors we have created our Fashion Collection consisting of floors in either a herringbone or chevron pattern. With Herringbone and Chevron all our planks are hand crafted to match as pairs, resulting in a seamless design.

Like the name suggests, a herringbone pattern is based on the skeletal pattern of a herring. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, herringbone is a pattern made up of rows of parallel lines which in any two adjacent rows slope in opposite directions.

In Ancient Rome roads were constructed using bricks laid in a herringbone pattern – making the roads sturdier and more stable. The herringbone pattern has also been used for jewellery, fabric (suits in particular), baskets and, of course, wood floors.

Chevron is another classic pattern for floors. A chevron design is similar to a parallel zigzag or a long line of straight arrows. The Chevron pattern has been used in military insignia, coats of arms, logos and as a general design pattern for centuries. In geological terms, a chevron fold structure is characterised by single layers bent at 90-degree angles.

Chevron floors are, historically, more painstaking to lay, with flooring specialists having to take time to carefully match the edges so as to maintain the symmetry of the design and avoid gaps. Forestry Timber has taken our fashion floors one step further with our innovative Chevron Connex flooring, designed for easy, no-fuss installation. Chevron Connex is chevron planks installed on 1450mm x 240mm boards that come as pairs, making it the quickest Chevron installation – giving more people more options for beautiful floors.
Regardless of the design you choose, you can rest assured knowing the craftsmanship that goes into each and every floor by Forestry Timber is second to none.
